Christal LaraColumbus General Market Manager
Christal Lara was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to North Dakota on a volleyball scholarship at the age of 17. She then transferred to Missouri Baptist University to continue her studies and volleyball career only to realize after one semester that moving back to North Dakota was a better choice for the degrees she wanted to obtain. She ended her college volleyball eligibility and graduated with a Bachelor's in Exercise Science and a second Bachelor's in Spanish from Dickinson State University.
Christal then moved back to California where she had multiple jobs. She worked as a personal trainer for Gold's Gym in Commerce, as a sports coach and tutor for LA's Best after school program for the Los Angeles Unified School District and as an assistant manager for Under Armour, Inc. She then transferred to Reebok International Limited and managed a local store in the Hollywood area. Not fully satisfied with the opportunities that presented themselves in California, Christal decided to leave her home state once again and find bigger opportunities in Columbus, Ohio where her oldest brother had established himself as a manager of a family member's Mexican restaurant.
Christal has lived in Columbus for seven years. She worked as a waitress for six years in her family's restaurant, all while juggling other opportunities in sports like crossfit, powerlifting, swimming and boxing. When the opportunity to give back to her Latino community as a Bilingual Assistant (interpreter) at South Western City School District emerged, she decided it would be a great learning experience and chance to work with her Spanish degree. Christal worked as a bilingual assistant for the district's Head Start program at Stiles Family Center, where she assisted with assessment and evaluation of English Learners and immigrant students, arrange and facilitate interpreting for parent-teacher conferences, provide translation between school and families as needed, interact with the teacher of ELs and immigrant students and classroom teachers regarding student's program/progress and everything and anything along the lines.
After working as a bilingual assistant for two years, she saw an opportunity to get into the corporate world with Heidelberg Distributing Company. There she started as a merchandiser where she learned how both the off-premise and on- premise world operates. She received the opportunity to move up from the merchandising position to being the Hispanic market on-premise Constellation specialist. In this position she focused on sales for imported Mexican brands like Corona Extra, Modelo Especial, Pacifico and Victoria. As soon as another opportunity arose to become a sales representative, Christal took it and fully ran her own route.
She is now excited to pursue another path and grow with this team, La Mega Media as the Columbus Market Manager. "There is always something new to learn and people to meet. I am excited to grow as a person and learn from this experienced team. They have welcomed me with open arms and I am very grateful."
